Looking in

Multi-talented Marloes has been living together for 15 years with her boyfriend in a corner house in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. Not a very big place, but hugely loved. Her interior can be described als a mix of Scandinavia with Morocco. Lots of whites and natural wood, interspersed with black & white art and golden trimmings. ‘Not everything needs to be expensive or a design piece. As long as it is beautiful’, says Marloes. ‘The light fixtures in this house are real design classics, but all the beds and cupboards were made by us’.

Apart from her full-time job in waste paper export, she mainly occupies herself with photography, her interior and writing posts for her blog: www.marloeswonen.nl. ‘When I was a little girl, I used to completely redecorate my bedroom on a weekly basis. I had so many ideas and lots of inspiration. So when I turned 18, I moved to live together with my husband. Why? Because I wanted to decorate my own home.’

Marloes completed her decor recently with two IXXIs. The black & white image of the Japanese lady was created using one of her own pictures, the wallpaper she chose from the Victoria & Albert Museum Collection. ‘Both IXXIs remind me of our trip through Asia. We share so many fond memories of those days, that we even considered moving to Thailand. We never dared to take that step, so now I will make do with these IXXIs, which transport me back to Asia in my mind...’

Nevertheless, Marloes and her partner have been looking for a house in a more rural setting. ‘This house has everything we would want from a home, except for a large barn. But to find something that might meet the standards of our current house...is not an easy task.’
