Take a look inside the home of interior stylist and blogger Marit

Marit (26), known online as StyledbyMarit, has turned her passion for interior styling into a full-time job. No surprise then that her home is beautifully decorated. In 2015, she and her boyfriend Patrick took the ultimate challenge, namely: buying a fixer-upper without having any experience of fixing houses up. Curious about the results of their three-year renovation? Take a look inside and be inspired.

The perfect fixer-upper
Marit and her boyfriend live in a old, 1950s terraced labourer's house. It's small and practical, but when they bought it, it wasn't particularly cosy or characterful. 'That's why we completely demolished the inside and rebuilt it all from scratch. Only the exterior walls were left intact. But because of this, we've been able to make it our own and create the atmosphere that we wanted,' Marit says. 'Sometimes I wonder how we managed to do it all, but now we look back on it as a special time. We make our own furniture these days, and we've totally got the hang of DIY.'

Industrial with a Balinese touch
The basis is an industrial look. Dark furniture and lots of wood feature heavily in their interior design style. 'Personally, I find this style a bit hard and cold, but adding some vintage and bohemian accessories here and there has made the rooms much more cosy and welcoming,' says Marit. Do you detect a Balinese influence going on here and there? You're right! 'We travel to Indonesia a lot because we have family who lives there. This doesn't just give us lots of inspiration for interior decorating; we often bring back unique accessories for our home, which is great!'

Home spa
The bathroom is Marit's favourite room. Although it's not a large space, it's been made to feel luxurious with some simple touches. 'Black tiles on the floor, wood-look tiling on the walls, and finished off with béton ciré (polished cement). This gives the bathroom a robust look that's warm too,' explains Marit.'We start our day here together, and we end it here too.' Where the sink unit came from? It's homemade!' We had some tiles left over from decorating the toilet, and they work beautifully as a countertop. Combined with the steel frame, it's a perfect reflection of the style we've used throughout the whole house.'

You'll find two IXXIs hanging in this home, each giving a room the perfect finishing touch. One in the bedroom and one (double-sided IXXI) in the living room. 'We've gone for an Eastern-inspired mood in the bedroom, so the Chinese wallpaper print fits in perfectly. In the living room, the botanical design by Creative Lab Amsterdam works really effectively. The dark side of this double-sided IXXI creates a warm ambience, while the jungle side brightens the whole place up. Win-win!'
