Take a look inside the renovated church of Henriëtte & Jan

This month we look inside a very special home: a converted church where Henriëtte lives with her husband Jan. Since 2018, they have been able to call themselves - together with their two children - big landowners of this unique house. Curious about the result? Look inside and see!

Uniquely magnificent
And not just a little bit! Because: who lives in a church? Not many people can say that. But Henriette and her husband can. For two years now they have been living in this beautiful church, which they have fully converted into a home. The two of them have transformed the entire interior of the church into a contemporary home. Modern design is perfectly combined here with characteristic elements of the church, such as the high ceiling and gabled roof that has been completely renovated. It gives a real wow factor! Henriette is a photographer and interior design consultant. She often shares many photos of her unique interior on her Instagram account. It’s not for nothing that the beautiful photos of the result are a feast for the eyes.

Industrial, rural and light
The interior exudes absolute tranquility. Henriette describes her style as "industrial, rural and light". Almost all the walls are white, making the entire look spacious. The intermediate floor also creates a spacious effect. To add some contrast, she has opted for black frames and door frames. Combined with the wood accents and industrial furniture, this gives the church a warm and modern look. Her favourite place in the house? That’s difficult to choose. Henriëtte prefers the couch, the large dining table or the adjoining shower room in the bedroom. “I really enjoy being with my family. And it’s also wonderful to be able to shower undisturbed. We live on the stage where the couch, piano and pallet stove are. There’s also a homemade 3.5-meter table, which we all enjoy sitting at," she says. A unique detail in the house: the old Egyptian front doors.

Make a statement
In the living room you can see a beautiful IXXI; the large version of The Girl with a Pearl Earring. This portrait makes a statement in the room and still gives the overall industrial look a subtle authentic touch. If you ask Henriëtte, the IXXI is an absolute winner: “I’m super happy to have this classic at home. The IXXI is nice and big and it is different from a photo”.
