The story behind: Chris Abatzis in California

A new month, a new story behind. Get to know Chris Abatzis this month: a freelance photographer from Berlin, who loves sneakers, tattoos and techno. This creative person also has a weakness for good food and fashion. He enjoys life in the city as much as he does trips to the countryside. We take you to a nice sunny trip from Chris. Namely the radiant California! A whole series of photos from his visit to this beautiful state in America is available as IXXI. Be inspired by his beautiful shots and at the same time find out more about the special places he has visited.

California baby
California is one of the fifty states in America, is situated on the west coast of the country and has an area of no less than 423,970 km². This makes California slightly larger than Germany or Japan and slightly smaller than France or Sweden. It is a varied area with extensive nature reserves, deserts, glaciers, forests, hilly areas, beautiful beaches and many lakes. Chris's trip takes you to radiant Malibu, vibrant LA, sun-drenched Joshua Tree National park and finally Death Valley.

The name Malibu makes you think of beautiful beaches, palm trees and coconuts right? This amazing spot is not only known for the beaches, but also for the large and expensive houses that are inhabited by celebrities. No worries, even if you are not a celebrity you can enjoy Malibu. View Chris’s sunny image and bring the Malibu vibe inside.

The text 'nice' is somewhat misleading. You would think that Chris shot this picture in southern France, but nothing could be further from the truth. It is part of the text 'Venice' which stands for the well-known hang-out of Venice Beach. It is one of the most popular beaches in California, where there is always something going on on the boulevard.

Joshua Tree National Park
The park consists of Colorado Desert and the slightly cooler Mojave Desert. This is the area where "Joshua trees" grow, a plant species to which the area owes its name. Chris has visited this part of the park and made a beautiful shot of the trees.

Death Valley
You can fry an egg on the hood of your car here. The highest temperature ever measured in Death Valley is 53.9 degrees Celsius! In addition to being quite hot, it is also the lowest point in North America. The area is 86 metres below sea level. What a picture, huh? The lonely road that Chris has photographed! Can you imagine yourself driving here?

The reason Chris enjoys travelling so much, he beautifully expresses in the following quote:

“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”

All the crazy trips have brought him a lot of inspiration. And not without result. His photos are beautiful. You immediately want to pack your suitcase and go on an adventure! We highlight Chris’s most beautiful spots for you.
